The Regular Faces of Nana Plaza Discuss The Center Bars

A couple of the regular faces at Nana Entertainment Plaza, Dave the manager of Angelwitch and Keith, an owner of the Ladyboy bar Temptations, are now thinking that the recently demolished bars in the center part of Nana Plaza is going to be reconstructed as a Beer Garden, which seems to make sense.
That way you could sit in the beer garden and watch the girls go by to their respected gogo bars.
As the longtime Mama-sen of 8 years Daeng at Angelwitch is always willing to hook you up with the girl of your dreams. Just ask her.

Slow Times at Soi Cowboy

It has been fairly slow lately at Soi Cowboy, especially on the rainy evenings. Few customers, and in some bars few girls. I went into one bar for a little while with a friend, and came out in was pouring rain.
But the motorcycle taxis were still there, zooming through the Soi, trying to get customers. Like who wants to ride on the back of a motorcycle taxi in the middle of a downpour?

Cactus Bar in Soi Cowboy - Still Independently Owned

The Cactus gogo bar in Soi Cowboy is one of the last small independent bars. It's ran by Cactus John, who prides himself in being a bit of a gourmet cook.
He serves up one item on Tuesdays and Thursdays, different each time. This time is was a massive burger which had a touch of horseradish along with homemade fries and a bowl of leach & potato soup, which also had a touch of spiciness to it.
You can wash it all down with a wide selection of Belgium beer while watching nude dancers on stage.
Its a rather funky little bar, a little like the old Hog's Breath Bar in Nana Plaza before Spankys took over that space.

And as Cactus John says, the more you drink, the prettier the girls look. (The prettier and slimmer girls come out after the meal is near conclusion.)
And the music is setup by John himself, and its never the same.

Southeast Asian Author Dean Barrett Does Booksigning in Bangkok

Dean Barrett was hard at work promoting and selling his books at the Texas Lone Staar Bar recently. He was signing and talking it up with his fans in one of his favorite bars in Bangkok - The Texas Lone Star. The bar even offered free fried chicken and potato salad for the event, and Dean ran out of some of the books that I wanted.
But he still has a few back at his apartment, so contact him through his blog, Dean Barrett Thailand, get yourself a copy of all of his books.

A Pessimistic View of the State of Nana Plaza

For long time customers, the old Plaza took on the air of a derelict hulk being towed to the wreckers to be broken up for scrap.
Personally, I took a piece of the rubble as a keepsake just like Germans snatched pieces of the Berlin Wall when it was finally torn down. I suggest others do the same before it is too late.
The inside skinny has long been that the when the master lease is up in the next couple of years, the land on which Nana Plaza stands will be sold, the plaza razed, and a hotel built on the site.

LadyBoys Just Want To Have Fun at Nana

Around midnight on Monday and Tuesday is a Katoey Cabaret Show at Cascade. Have a drink and enjoy the show. (And buy a ladyboy drink for the lucky one sitting next to you. They'll love you for it.)

The Center Bars of Nana Plaza Torn Down - Finally

After years of it being considered a fire hazard, the center bars of Nana Plaza are no more. The fire department thought that it would be necessary in case of a fire in Nana Entertainment Plaza that they would be able to drive inside to fight a blaze.

I remember when it was hard to walk inside the complex with all of the motorcycles blocking the entrance.

Will it be better, or is it part of the end of Nana?
Maybe its the start of a new renaissance.

Boobie Fondling at Sheba's in Soi Cowboy

Leave it to the kids fresh off the plane to invest time in the playful side of Soi Cowboy.....
Sitting in Sheba's with my pal as he reached around the back of this hostess he had been flirting with to undo her bra, and when it became apparent that he was over challenged, she reached behind herself and undid the strap of her bra.....
She got him staring at her boobies, then leaned in and grabbed his head from behind, thrusting it between her massive mammaries where he responded with the inevitable “brrrrrrrrrrrrr…..” as he shook his head side to side between them.

It’s the kind of behavior that can make you cringe if you see it from across the room, but sitting with my mate all I could do was laugh and enjoy myself. He was completely at ease and just having fun.
It was pure enjoyment.

Recent Bangkok Weather

And the weather in Bangkok recently has been perfect for “cold & flu season”. It’s been raining for long stretches at a time the past few days. Nights have been cool, requiring a blanket to sleep comfortably, but daytime temperatures have still been in the “sweat range”.

Entertainment Centre in Chiang Mai

The best bar complex in Chiang Mai is the Entertainment Centre about 200 yards west of Chanklan rd. It houses about 25 small bars and provides ample seating, most have small pool tables and on average 3 girls work in each bar. On most nights the total complex has about 75 bar girls and about 15-20 bar patrons. Great odds if you want to talk to the girl of your choice.
The largest shopping area in Chiang Mai is that in the Night Bazaar area - Chang Klang rd.

Soi Cowboy Girls Are Begging For Attention

The lack of customers in Soi Cowboy is certainly having an affect on the girls.
They seem more forward with 'You can buy drink for me or not'.
They seemed to ask for a drink as soon as we got in a bar and ordered our first drink!
But I can live with that.
A laugh and a 'no' had the desired effect.



(The same can be said about Nana Plaza also, I think.)

Red Shirt Protests in Bangkok, Thailand

The military is present in the city.

The red shirt protests continue to cause havoc in Thailand, seriously damaging he country's reputation.

The protests are inconveniencing much of the Bangkok populace, putting some out of business, many out of work and the whole debacle has changed the vibe in Bangkok.

I can't count how many times I have been asked by fellow foreigners whether I am yellow or red. I am neither. Many, many people are fed up with both of these groups and you can count me in that number.

I'm sorry to say that the whole protest situation shows no sign of ending any time soon, in fact I would go as far to say that the red shirted protesters seem more settled and more entrenched - and the odds of them being forced out by the authorities is much less likely than it was say a week ago.
It really looks like this could go on and on and on...

Black Pagoda in Patpong 2

If you have yet to check out Black Pagoda, located on what was once a walkway between two buildings up above Patpong soi 2 where sexy girls dance and put on a show for those below (see right), now is your chance. Black Pagoda has a new happy hour in place and from 7 until 9 pm it's just 100 baht for standard drinks, good value in what is a high end bar.

The Bus from the Suvarnabhumi Airport to Bangkok

To save money take the airport express bus located on the 2nd floor arrival hall near entrance 8 at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
There is a ticket office for the bus which only cost B150. The bus you should be getting on is number AE1.
The stop to get off on is next to the Montien Hotel, which is directly across Patpong red light district. The bus ride should take about 1 to 2 hours.

Taking a public taxi will cost nearly B350 including tolls and airport surcharge.

Sweetheart A Gogo in Pattaya

Sweetheart A Gogo on Walking Street is one of those gogo bars we've all walked past but I bet many, like me, have never been inside. A mate swung by this weekend, ordered a drink - priced at a fair 90 baht - and in something of a hurry, gulped it down and paid with a 100 baht note and added a 20 baht note, as a tip. He stood up and made for the door but was caught before he left, the service girl handing him 910 baht change.
He had inadvertently given her a one thousand baht note, thinking it was a 100. He made a point of mentioning this girl's honesty to the manager who stated that he would not allow any of his staff to rip off a guest for even 1 baht - and anyone caught doing so would be fired on the spot.
In an industry where the staff can get a lot of grief, I thought this was just marvelous - and I for one will drop by for a beer on my next visit to Pattaya.
