In Pattaya - Check out The Welkom Inn Early On (Before Noon)

Welkom Inn is a hotel in Soi 3 (also entrance in Soi 2), but it has a little nice bar in Soi 3 too and the party starts early here.
In Soi 3 you will see some ladies sitting outside before a curtain, which is the entrance to the very dark little bar inside (coming from the beach road, it will be on the left side, just after some regular bars).

You won't need a flashlight however, there will always be someone to guide into the right direction... ;-)

New Pattaya Video - On Walking Street

Another video by our friend Chris Wood of TF Films, I think.
Actually, its a re-release of the same video that came out last May under a different name.

Pattaya Is More Affordable, More Fun

In short, Pattaya is more fun.
For some hard statistics, take my recent weekend in Pattaya as an example. I stayed in a comfortable mid-range hotel run by a large group in a double air-con room. The hotel had a swimming pool, restaurant, coffee shop and good security. The room rate was 550 baht per night, including breakfast. A similar place in Bangkok would be the Nana Hotel, whose rates for a standard room have gradually crept up to the current level of 1,290 baht.

Perhaps because there is so much competition, bars in Pattaya try a lot harder. Happy hours are everywhere. One bar on Second Road doesn't have a happy hour as such but charges just 45 baht at all times for bottled beer. Try finding a similar deal in Bangkok.
We crawled from beer bar to beer bar at both ends of Beach Road. The hostesses were lively, fun and engaging company. Most waited for customers to offer them a drink, unlike the many Cola addicts 150 kilometres up the road in Bangkok.

If you decide to buy a lady-drink, they are rarely more than 100 baht in Pattaya, even in the best gogo bars. Contrast that with Bangkok, where a Cola can set you back 150 baht and water masquerading as Tequila (an increasingly popular scam) will dent your wallet to the tune of 200 baht. Beer guzzlers will find Pattaya prices up to 50 baht a bottle cheaper than in Bangkok at beer bars and gogos.

Then there are the relative demands of the ladies. Most Pattaya bargirls will stay overnight with punters for 1,000 baht in addition to a barfine of 300 baht. You can at least double both those prices in Bangkok, assuming you aren't negotiating with those Rainbow gogo girls who now value their services at 4,000 baht. The mercenary attitude of the capital's entertainment providers has persuaded many farangs to head east for their pleasures.

We dined at La Cuisine Au Beurre, a French restaurant that has been getting rave reviews. For 220 baht, I had spinach soup, sensational braised veal shank with vegetables, Camembert cheese, French bread and coffee. I don't know how they make money and am not aware of any French restaurants in Bangkok offering such great food at that price.
The plain fact is that party time in Pattaya is more fun and a lot less expensive than in Bangkok. More and more people are coming to that conclusion.

Ending An All-Nighter in Pattaya

In Marine I was trolling but given we were all pretty plowed I was gravitating towards girls with good dance moves. Went through about 3 of them before I locked horns with a cutie I recognized from the Coyote bar new Club Boesche.
She had great moves, dressed well and loved to makeout. Sounds good to me. We drank a few and then moved on to Insomnia.

It was 5:00 in the morning. or somewhere around there, and I had no idea what to do. Then the girl asked if I had hotel. Actually I do not since the party rooms where in full swing and I knew there was no place to hide. She said no problem and we rode a motorcycle taxi to some out of the norm soi where we got a room for 400 baht. She made sure she could sleep in the room until 3 pm that day. Another great pull, good value and just a fun girl.

We fell asleep and I awoke to my phone ringing. One of the crew was looking for me assuming I had probably fallen asleep in a short time hotel. Indeed I had. Fortunately I did not sleep long enough to induce my impending hangover but was still buzzing....

Updates from Dean Barrett

Nana Update:
Nana Plaza was reaaaallly slow when I was there. There was more action among the stray cats on the roofs than in the bars.

Pattaya Update:
A number of clubs had some pretty dancers and Walking Street really does pick up about 11 p.m. It is amazing though how few women are about during the day even into the late afternoon and then whamo! some time after dark like magic they're all over the place.

(Dean's friend is a fast operator, picking up a Hello Girl right away.)

Pattaya Update

It might be quiet at this time of year but there are some major developments steaming ahead in Pattaya that will play a part in the gradual, but very definite change in the face of Thailand's naughtiest beach resort. The large multi-building complex on the Second Road, opposite the Lek Hotel, is a shopping centre not dis-similar to the Big C complex at the north Pattaya end of Second Road. This new complex which is home to a 24 hour branch of McDonalds and a Major Cineplex, both of which are open already.

Also under construction, the even bigger Central shopping centre on the Beach Road is not going ahead quite so fast, but when finished that it has got to contribute towards giving Pattaya something of a more legitimate feel.

But despite all of these developments being erected at a furious pace, Pattaya remains awfully quiet and as has been reported for a number of weeks now, the bars are really hurting. Waking Street's trade isn't helped by evening drizzle which keeps punters in restaurants, and out of the bars. Entrepreneurial locals are selling umbrellas along Walking Street for 200 baht. The same thing will set you back 99 baht in Bangkok's Pratunam Market.

Two Fat Farangs Leaving Pattaya

It goes without saying that Pattaya has its unsavoury side, and murders and suicides occur on an almost daily basis, sure, but you never hear about the amount of successful love stories that happen every day, or the sense of community spirit amongst the expat community.
With a population of over a quarter million people you’re going to have to take the rough with the smooth.

My only regrets about Pattaya is that I didn’t find it when I was in my twenties. Now, in some ways, the place seems a little wasted on me. All too often I clock a girl who takes my breath away. Literally. Just the mere thought of having to try and satisfy her leaves me short of breath.

I’ve had my heart broken a few times here, but these days I’d like to think that I’m a little more careful. It’s all too easy to think that the next one is “the one”, but it’s impossible for things to remain as sweet as they are in those first few months of courtship, so move on quickly, I say, with as little emotion as possible.

Running a bar has to be kept as stress-free as possible, so I’m always sure to keep my emotions and hormones in check. If any urges overcome me I just slide out for a soapy massage down the road.

It’s never going to make me rich this bar, I know. It ticks over and that’s good enough for me. I’ve got a cosy little flat upstairs, and about every other day Pu sends one of the girls up to clean up after me or do my laundry. I’m spoiled really.

Apart from the obvious differences in beauty, Western and Asian females are like two entirely different species. That’s not to say that all Asian ladies are perfect, far from it, but the percentage that pride themselves on taking care of their man far outnumbers the amount of western females who once upon time used to also share the same qualities......

(This was John's feelings at the beginning of the year. Since then he has found his Thai country girl, sold the bar in Pattaya, and is trying to buy a house in Udon so he can help with her college education. (See Shy Thai Girls)
His partner, Will, is content being on top of some mountain meditating.)

In their archives there is some interesting interviews they did.
And the infamous letter from John Eke, which states "There will be a 28 period where all foreigners will be given chance to leave, after that we will be arrested and deported within another 28 day period. After that all farangs will be shot on the spot."

Check them out before its gone entirely.

Pattaya Distractions

In the Walking Street go-go bars you are trying to have a sensible conversation and a hot babe thrusts her perfectly shaped figure upon you. I find that very distracting don’t you? It’s funny how we never get to finish the conversation.
Oh well guys, this is one of the “hazards” of visiting Pleasure Palaces in Pattaya.

Shy Thai Girls - Moving to Udon?

Before I met her I thought I’d grown tired of shy Thai girls; prefering experienced go-go girls rather than bashful blanket-grabbers.
But with Nam I dig that shyness all over again, the buzz of carefully coaxing them out of their shells, and making them feel comfortable with you. With Nam her sexuality is now starting to shine through, whereas before I was making all the moves. Now that her inhibitions are rolling away the love-making gets better every time.....

What was supposed to be just a weekend in Udon turned into a whole week.
Now I’m back in Pattaya wondering why I returned. This town always seems lonely and dilapidated this time of year, strange and oblivious characters trawling the streets, and old and familiar faces in the places you don’t want to be.....

I quite like Udon.
There’s a small expat community there, a few bars, a modern mall and some decent western restaurants. The massage parlours are a bit down-market. I won’t be visiting them again. But I can definitely see myself moving there. In fact, we spent the last few days house-hunting.

Anybody want to buy a bar?

Secrets Bar by Hammer

In Pattaya on Soi 14 is a bar called the Secrets Bar.
Hammer seems to be managing the place and promoting it with photos of its parties.
Seems like a friendly place.
Happy Birthday to whoever.

Pattaya - Cover Up or Face Closure

Beer Bars and Go-Go Bars told to cover up or face closure.

Police Colonel Sutin, the Superintendent of Pattaya Police along with Khun Ronagit, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, chaired this Friday Morning Meeting attended by 360 staff members of Beer Bars and Go-Go Bars operating here in Pattaya. They were told that the Police and Pattaya Administration will no longer tolerate explicit shows and nakedness in the bars of Pattaya and any establishment found to be disregarding these orders will face a minimum of a 60 day closure order and even the revocation of entertainment and liquor licenses. It is thought that a Bar Crackdown will shortly follow to ensure that bars are following these newly enforced regulations.

Trouble in Paradise?

The Pattaya Addicts gang has sent out a heads-up in regards to a meeting they attended which mentions new rules will go into effect; such as close-circuit tv having to be installed inside and outside of bars and gogo clubs, random drug testing for both employees and customers, employees must be 20 years old and the businesses must keep registration forms with photos on file of all of its workers. Sign up and read more. "The crackdown has begun."

Stickman's Most Popular Photo

"Without a doubt the most copied part of the my website has been this picture of a bargirl wandering down soi 8 in Pattaya with her dinner in hand. It has appeared all over the ‘net, from local discussion forums to US-based escort sites, to various Asian forums to at least two different German porn sites.
Cripes, it’s a good photo but it's not that good!"

Pattaya, and Girls with Cameras

Excerpts and Comments on Bangkok’s Nightlife By Stickman, Bangkok Bad Boy, and Dave the Rave

Pattaya:
It’s not that the town has attracted an influx of good-looking expats; just the opposite. With the seasonal downswing in tourism and the departure of US Navy personnel a week ago, working girls opine, “Farang law law”. In other words, those fat, balding, older expats who are still around are again being beckoned with such endearing terms as, “Hello, sexy man”, “Come inside, handsome man.” That pretty much sums up the Pattaya scene of late. Few tourists. Hungry working girls. Little business at all but the most popular bars and nightspots in town.

Girls with cameras:

Since digital cameras have become very popular, many punters have started their own collection of photos of some of the pretty ladies whose company they have enjoyed. But don't think it's only the guys who do this. There is one lady in Worldwide A Gogo on Beach Road who has a collection of photos of guys that must number in excess of 50. She joked to me that she wanted to put them online like guys do with pictures of the girls. So, if you want your Pattaya activities to remain anonymous, be careful of girls with camera phones.
