Nana Plaza Update

 

A new bar has opened up inside Nana Plaza on the ground floor called Angelwitch 2.  

It can be found on the right hand side, between Rainbow 2, 

and Playskool (which is currently closed for renovations.)
Erotica Go Go Bar in Nana Plaza has changed its name to Erotica Chili but otherwise it's business as usual.

Things are grim in Nana Plaza for those who depend on business in the plaza to pay the bills.  First was the initial bemusement of a major police raid, more than a month ago.  This was followed by annoyance as word spread that random checks would take place in the plaza most nights. 

In every bar, those on stage were in shorts and fully covered tops.  It all looked like some sort of B-grade YouTube music video with confused girls who quickly became disheartened and ultimately disinterested as customers stuck their head in the door, didn't like what they saw and tried the next bar (where it was exactly the same).  

The rain lingered from late afternoon and was still falling late in to the night making this past Thursday the worst night I've ever seen in the plaza.  Come 10 PM, and some gogo bars had yet to have their first customer.  Hopefully the covered look is very temporary.

Then there was frustration as word reached managers and owners that some girls who were told to stay away until things settled down had found new bars to dance in.  Fewer girls means fewer customers.  

A month on and now everyone is angry - bar bosses, investors, bar managers, mamasans, the girls and even customers.  Takings are down, girls have flocked to Cowboy and customers don't know where to go.  Some girls have been spooked and are unlikely to return to Nana when things eventually blow over...whenever that may be.  

There's a feeling that much of the hard work of the last year restoring Nana as Bangkok's best and most popular farang bar district has been undone.  What owners in Nana are rightfully angry about is the way that Nana Plaza - and only Nana Plaza - has been targeted, while it's business as usual elsewhere.

So Las Vegas A-Go Go on the third floor of Nana Plaza is now called Tokyo Player.

Las Vegas was a nice quiet go go club, good to cuddle up with a cutie.

We will see what its like after the remodel and name change.

The Big Mango Bar, Bangkok

Over the next few months there will be a bit of a change at the Big Mango Bar that's just off Soi 4. They are looking into converting the upper floors into a hotel/hostel... the bar will remain the same - just few mods....

We have 5 floors (not 4 as stated in a wrong article by a fat proffessor) at the Big Mango and lots of room, so the plan is to turn some of the floors into Serviced Apartments and Hotel rooms.   We arrived at this idea due to all the inquiries we get from people walking in off the street and asking if we have accommodation.  We have plenty of hotels around us – which are always full, so there seems to be a market down the sub-soi. And what of the bar?   Changes are going to be there too.  I don’t know the details of the plans, but I do know that there will be a bit of construction on the the upper floors. If you wonder about the staff, then don’t.  They’ll remain.    The bar will close for a while for some major construction works to be carried out. Not too sure about the name just yet…. it’ll no longer be just a ‘bar’.   So… The Big Mango Bar now opens at 4pm. Free Wifi and also public laptop available inside. The Big Mango Bar

Nana Plaza Update (3-13)

Inside Nana Entertainment Plaza the Pretty Lady Bar took down their Nana Main Station because of complaints that it was so bright and that it was hurting people's eyes.  The sign was replaced with a red on black canvas sign which you can only read if you're standing right in front of it!  Compare that to the lovely new sign at Lollipop, right next door, which stands out all around the plaza.

Nana Liquid Disco, across the street on the ground floor of the Nana Hotel, remains closed.  It was reported last week that it had closed due to the strict enforcement of 2 AM closing on Soi Nana - which continues to be enforced.

Pretty Lady at Nana Plaza 2013

 The current Pretty Lady crew are a fun bunch and it is the attitudes of 

the girls and the general atmosphere of the bar that sets it apart.

 Pretty Lady Go-Go Bar features a floor-mounted wind machine which 
the DJ turns on without warning, causing the girls' skirts to be blown up.  

Shrieking and laughter follows as the girls quickly push their 

skimpy skirts back down to maintain their dignity.

Pretty Lady has such genuinely friendly girls, but more than anything, it's just good plain fun.  The 2013 version of Pretty Lady Bar on the ground level of Nana Plaza really does recapture the fun of the bars in the good old days!

Nana Plaza is a four story complex of go go bars where you can have some beers, chat up some girls (expect to pay somewhere around 150 baht each for drinks for the ladies who you want to talk to), and pay the “bar fine” of somewhere around 600 baht (a little under $20 US) to the club to take the girl out.
That fee only gets the girl out of the bar though, so you’re going to have to negotiate any extra services with the girls before you pay the bar fine. The girls set their own prices, but 2000 baht to take her to your hotel room for an hour or two is pretty typical.

My real recommendation, if you’re in town for a while, is to hire one of the bar girls to be your tour guide to the local’s Bangkok on one of your first nights there, because that worked out amazingly well for me. No regular tour guide would have had me drinking beer and eating crickets by the river at 4am, but it was one of the highlights of my first trip to Thailand.

In Soi Cowboy the After Skool Bar is a place where you can get a bj while having a beer (so I’ve been told) and Cock-a-too is a ladyboy bar.
Baccara girls are the biggest hustlers on the block, but they’re also probably the most attractive, and you can see the most nudity there as well.
They have bikini clad girls on the main floor, but there’s a glass ceiling above you, and the girls dancing above you wear short skirts and no panties, so you can get quite a view if you don’t mind craning your neck and looking like a pervert.

Expanding Hours at Nana Plaza

Hollywood Rock, Obsession, lollipop, and the Nana Beer Garden inside Nana Plaza are opening at noon starting January 22!
